Open access publisher BioMed Central, UK, has announced that it will present the third annual Beyond the Genome conference in conjunction with its journals Genome Medicine and Genome Biology. The event will take place at Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA from September 27-29, 2012.
Following the conference’s previous success, this year’s focuses will be on next-generation sequencing and other new technologies, informatics tools and how these are being used to identify common and rare disease-causing mutations in the research laboratory and toward the clinic.
Highlighting the important issue of the 'data deluge' in genomics, the conference will open with an informatics workshop which will be followed by two days concentrating on the applications of high-throughput technologies in inherited disease, cancer, and epigenomics. Ethical aspects will also be considered.
