BioMed Central launches online open access journal, Genome Medicine -

Open access publisher BioMed Central, US, has announced the launch of a new journal titled Genome Medicine. The publication seeks to provide the latest information and findings that have an impact on the understanding and management of human health and disease to physicians around the globe. The online, peer-reviewed open access research journal was launched at a special event at the 58th annual meeting of the American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) in Philadelphia.

The recent surge of DNA sequence information resulting from deciphering the human genetic code has acted as a catalyst for innovative technological developments that have been vital in the identification of genes associated with disease pathologies. This has allowed for the development of novel genetic therapies to treat a wide range of inherited disorders. The new genomic era heralds earlier diagnoses, greatly improved prevention and treatment of diseases and enhanced avoidance of side effects from drugs.

The launch issue is sponsored by Agilent Technologies, a provider of microarrays, scanners, reagents and other life science tools. In addition to publishing high-quality research, Genome Medicine seeks to serve the international research community as a forum for the discussion and critical review of information about all areas of medicine informed by genomic research.
