Open access publisher BioMed Central will publish Marine Biodiversity Records, the official journal of the Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom, as an Open Access journal. The journal was launched as a subscription journal in 2008, however from 2016 onwards it will be publishing wholly Open Access.
Marine Biodiversity Records (MBR) is a peer-reviewed, online publication with a focus on the rapidly changing marine and coastal environment. The journal publishes original research articles which record and review behavioural and geographical changes in marine organisms, including effects of the introduction of novel or alien species to marine ecosystems, and new records of species in previously undocumented areas.
MBR was first published as a subscription journal by Cambridge University Press from 2008, as part of a major investment by the Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom and Cambridge University Press to improve dissemination of good science in the field. With the journal now being launched with its first fully open-access content, the Marine Biological Association is excited about enhancing impact of MBR while continuing to provide world-leading research and advancing understanding of global marine biodiversity.
