Information research solutions provider Ovid, US, has announced that 27 journals available electronically on its platform OvidSP have been selected as among the 100 most influential biology and medical journals of the past 100 years. The journals were selected by the Special Libraries Association (SLA) Biomedical and Life Sciences Division (DBIO), and honored at the association's recent annual meeting in Washington, DC. Of the 27 journals, five are from Lippincott Williams & Wilkins (LWW). Both Ovid and LWW are part of Wolters Kluwer Health. The other journals are from publishers such as Elsevier, Oxford University Press, BMJ and Wiley-Blackwell.
The five LWW journals include AJN: American Journal of Nursing, Circulation, Neurology, Anesthesia & Analgesia, and Critical Care Medicine. Four of these titles are published with the support of medical societies. Circulation is published in cooperation with the American Heart Association; Neurology is the official publication of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN); Anesthesia & Analgesia is the official scientific publication of the International Anesthesia Research Society; and Critical Care Medicine is the official publication of the Society of Critical Care Medicine.
Journals in the DBIO Top 100 were determined by the votes of nearly 700 librarian members, after being nominated by an international panel of subject matter experts. The fields represented include clinical medicine, allied health sciences, molecular and cellular biology, and natural history.
On OvidSP, institutional users can search a list of more than 1,200 journals and journal collections. Advanced search and browse functionality allows for simultaneous searching of multiple journals as well as journals, books and databases with just one search query. Electronic tables of contents (eTOCS) provide content updates via e-mail or RSS feed. Single-article access is also available using Ovid's PayPerView service.
