Bloomberg BNA announces new edition of Patent, Trademark, and Copyright Laws -

Bloomberg BNA, a wholly owned subsidiary of Bloomberg, has published the June 2013 Edition to Patent, Trademark, and Copyright Laws, which contains all the changes enacted into law through May 1, 2013. The latest edition fully integrates the provisions of the Act into the U.S. Code sections of this book, providing helpful visual guides that will aid practitioners in understanding the law and when provisions will go into effect.

The myriad provisions contained in the Leahy-Smith America Invents Act (AIA), which was signed into law in September 2011, will have profound effects on attorneys and inventors for years to come. Patent, Trademark, and Copyright Laws, June 2013 Edition, with CD-ROM, fully integrates into Title 35 the many important changes to U.S. patent law set forth in the Act, including those effective March 16, 2013, such as changes to provisions implementing the 'first-inventor-to-file' system. The June 2013 Edition also incorporates the Continuing Appropriations Resolution, 2013, and the new patent fee schedule effective March 19, 2013.

Most importantly, the June 2013 Edition covers technical corrections to the AIA and significant laws enacted by the 112th Congress, which ended January 3, 2013. These include the Theft of Trade Secrets Clarification Act of 2012 and the Foreign and Economic Espionage Penalty Enforcement Act of 2012. This edition has the entire text of United States Code Titles 35 (Patents) and 17 (Copyrights), and Chapters 22 and 63 of Title 15 (Trademarks and Technology Innovation). Sections of the Code and treaties relating to intellectual property also are provided.

The June 2013 Edition has an updated CD-ROM with the entire text of the Leahy-Smith America Invents Act, plus the full text of the book, allowing for quick and easy searching. To aid with research, the CD ROM provides an easy-to-use chart showing all of the patent law revisions contained in the Act, with effective dates, and a full legislative history.

Patent, Trademark, and Copyright Laws, June 2013 Edition, is edited by Jeffrey M. Samuels, who is the David L. Brennan Professor of Law and the Director of the Center for Intellectual Property Law and Technology at The University of Akron School of Law, Akron, OH. This handbook is available for sale directly from Bloomberg BNA and also will be available on the Bloomberg Law legal research system.
