Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation Journals launches Aswan Heart Centre Science and Practice Series on QScience.com -

Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation Journals (BQFJ) has announced the launch of Aswan Heart Centre Science and Practice Series on QScience.com, its digital publishing portal for research journals. Aswan Heart Centre Science and Practice Series is a new, peer-reviewed international cardiology journal that is dedicated to keeping cardiologists abreast of advances in the influence of basic science on clinical practice. All content in the journal will be 'open access', meaning they are free-to-read on the web and authors retain copyright on their works.

Research in Qatar has shown that one in 100 babies is born with heart disease, the most common forms of congenital problems being holes in heart, lack of valve formation, narrow arteries. The new journal is expected to provide a much-needed authoritative source and central forum on research and clinical practice.

Aswan Heart Centre Science and Practice Series will publish in-depth reviews by international experts in the field and is based partly on material presented at the annual meetings bearing the same name. The journal will also publish original material and case studies judged to have important influence on practice in all aspects of cardiology. Subject areas include, but is not limited to, clinical cardiology, ischemic, valvular, congenital and myocardial disease, arrhythmias and pacing, heart failure, imaging, epidemiology, decision analysis, primary and secondary prevention and associated translational research.

Sir Magdi Yacoub, Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS), and Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London, serves as Editor-in-Chief of Aswan Heart Centre Science and Practice Series.

QScience.com's advanced technology makes research findings readily accessible and searchable and uses multimedia functionalities to support data, audio and video formats as well as text. It also claims to be the first scholarly research platform to make journal abstracts available in both English and Arabic. The platform already hosts six scholarly journals covering diverse subject areas such as information and library studies, sustainable energy, education, Middle Eastern healthcare, design and Islamic studies. Many other journals are scheduled to be added in 2011.
