BMJ, a leading global provider of healthcare knowledge, continues to strengthen its commitment to open access (OA) by establishing new Read and Publish (R&P) agreements worldwide. These strategic partnerships aim to enhance access to cutting-edge research and facilitate knowledge sharing across the global research community.
New Read & Publish agreements announced:
• Italy: BMJ has signed its first R&P agreement with the CRUI Consortium. This two-year deal, effective from 2024, includes BMJ's Standard Collection titles and Gold OA journals, marking a significant milestone in Italy's OA landscape.
• Turkey: Another first for BMJ, the R&P agreement with the Anadolu Üniversite Kütüphaneleri Konsorsiyumu (ANKOS) Consortium in Turkey covers BMJ’s Standard Collection and Gold OA journals. This partnership will enable Turkish researchers to publish and access high-quality research more freely.
• The Netherlands: BMJ has expanded its existing OA agreement with the Amsterdam UMC (locatie AMC/VUMC) under the SURF Consortium to a comprehensive R&P agreement. This new deal includes all hybrid journals in BMJ’s Premier Collection, reflecting a robust commitment to open access.
Institutional agreements in France and the US
• France: BMJ has secured new R&P agreements with the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire (CHU) de Lille and CHU de Toulouse. These agreements cover hybrid titles and include Gold OA journals for CHU de Toulouse, ensuring extensive access to BMJ’s research publications.
• United States: BMJ has reinforced its presence in the US with a new agreement at the Jean and Alexander Heard Libraries at Vanderbilt University. This partnership, which includes BMJ's hybrid and Gold OA journals for 2024, complements existing agreements with Rowan University and Michigan State University, demonstrating BMJ's dedication to advancing academic collaboration and open access in the US.
Ongoing commitment to open access
Earlier in 2024, BMJ renewed all its existing R&P agreements with key institutions, including JISC (UK), BSB (Germany), Bibsam (Sweden), Ireland (IReL), and Michigan State University. Additionally, new agreements were announced in Switzerland, Finland, Australia, and the US, highlighting BMJ's unwavering commitment to fostering open access globally.
These partnerships are part of BMJ's broader strategy to support scientific advancement by removing barriers to access and dissemination of research. By expanding its open access offerings, BMJ is playing a crucial role in promoting knowledge sharing and facilitating the flow of information within the global research community.
