Global healthcare knowledge provider BMJ is extending its open access offering across Europe with the establishment of three Read and Publish agreements in France. Collaborating with renowned institutions, Hospices Civils de Lyon, Université Côte d'Azur, and Université de Bordeaux, BMJ aims to support open access publishing and advance healthcare research in the country. These agreements mark BMJ's first Transitional agreements in France, complementing its existing European Consortia deals in the UK, Sweden, Ireland, and Germany.
Under the agreements, BMJ will cover the article processing charges (APCs) for eligible authors affiliated with the partner institutions when publishing in any of BMJ's Standard Collection or Gold Open Access journals, including its flagship journal, The BMJ. This initiative allows corresponding authors to publish their primary research open access at no cost to them.
BMJ has long been a pioneer and advocate of open access as a means to foster knowledge dissemination and accelerate discoveries in healthcare. The organization places great importance on increasing the reach and utilization of published research, striving to innovate and advance the field of health research. With the expansion of its open access offering in Europe, BMJ remains committed to providing access to high-quality, trusted healthcare information and supporting the scientific community in building a healthier world. The collaboration with these prestigious French institutions strengthens BMJ's partnership network and fosters collaboration to advance healthcare research.
BMJ's commitment to advancing scientific discovery is evident through recent initiatives such as the renewal of all existing Read and Publish deals, the transformation of its first transformative journal, Evidence Based Medicine Mental Health, into open access, now known as BMJ Mental Health, and the launch of two new open access journals, BMJ Oncology and BMJ Public Health. These endeavors further solidify BMJ's dedication to fostering accessible and impactful research in the healthcare field.
