BMJ Group and Society of NeuroInterventional Surgery announce publishing partnership -

Medical information publisher BMJ Group, UK, has announced that it is partnering with a US-based specialist society to launch a new journal - The Journal of NeuroInterventional Surgery. BMJ will publish the journal on behalf of the Society of NeuroInterventional Surgery (SNIS), formerly the American Society of Interventional and Therapeutic Neuroradiology, through its Affinity brand.

This is the first US title to be published through Affinity, which provides a complete publishing service for professional medical groups and learned societies, ranging from business development, through editorial support, to sales and marketing. The move follows growing professional interest in neurointerventional techniques for the treatment of a range of neurological and vascular problems. These include potentially life-threatening conditions, such as stroke, aneurysms (weakened and enlarged blood vessels), brain tumours, and spinal compression.

The new journal will launch in July 2009 under the editorship of Dr Phillip Purdy, Professor of Radiology and Neurosurgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, Texas, USA. It is set to issue quarterly in 2010, moving to bimonthly publication as submissions allow. Content will include original research, commissioned reviews, debates and case reports, with the aim of promoting new advances in the field and enhancing standards of professional practice. From 2010 onwards, the new journal will be included in the institutional subscription fees for the Journal of Neurology Neurosurgery and Psychiatry, another specialist title published by BMJ Group.
