Medical publisher BMJ Group, UK, has announced that Prof. Mauricio Barreto will be the next editor of the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health. Prof. Barreto will take up his post in March 2008. His major research interests are infectious disease epidemiology, under nutrition, micronutrient deficiencies and the association between nutrition and infection.
Prof. Barreto has served on national and international scientific committees and has been an active member of the editorial boards of several international epidemiology and public health journals. The current editors, Prof. Carlos Alvarez-Dardet and Prof. John Ashton, have jointly held the position since 1997. During this time, the impact factor of the journal has grown to 2.805 (ISI Web of Science 2006) and is ranked 3rd in the social science and 15th in the public health categories.
The Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health is one of 24 specialist titles published by the BMJ Group. An international journal covering all aspects of epidemiology and public health, it publishes original research, opinions, and material concerned with the study and improvement of communities worldwide.
