BMJ Group launches Indian operations with New Delhi office -

Medical information publisher BMJ Group, UK, has announced its expansion into India with the opening of an office in New Delhi. Two senior executives from the Group, which is owned by the British Medical Association (BMA), are visiting India shortly to explain how doctors can benefit from the evidence based medical information published by it. The new BMJ Group India office is headed by Prashant Mishra who joins the Group from Elsevier and Wolters Kluwer Health STM Publishing.

BMJ's current customer base includes doctors in the UK, other European countries, the US, Australia, New Zealand, China and the Middle East. Prof. Parveen Kumar, former president of the BMA and Chair of BMJ Learning's Advisory Board, and Dr. Michael Chamberlain, Chairman of the BMJ Group, are holding meetings in New Delhi and Mumbai with various medical bodies. These include the Indian Medical Association, the Ministry of Health, the All Indian Institute of Medicine and Science, 21st Century Management Solutions, and hospital groups Fortis and Max Healthcare and Educom.

According to company representatives, continuous medical education (CME) for doctors is likely to become compulsory in India as in various European countries. BMJ is therefore looking to expand its interactive, web-based BMJ Learning modules in India. It will also be introducing to India its sister company, OnExamination, which provides training and examination practice for most post graduate medical disciplines. These include Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in the UK and online examination preparation services for PGMEE in India. BMJ Group publishes the British Medical Journal, BMJ Clinical Evidence and BMJ Best Treatments.
