Market research firm BML has announced that it is currently conducting a research on the state of e-publishing on behalf of Publishing Technology, a UK-based provider of software and services to the publishing industry. BML offers research information and business intelligence on the UK book market.
The research into e-publishing follows a research project in 2001, also conducted on behalf of Publishing Technology (then VISTA), called “Publishing 2001: attitudes to technological change”. That project had involved interviews with a select group of senior publishers from a number of trade, academic/professional, schools and journal publishers, both in the UK and the US.
The UK publishers who were involved in the 2001 research project will be invited to contribute to the survey this time round. New individuals will replace those from the original survey who are no longer operating.
Ten years on, BML will revisit some of the key areas explored in 2001. The intention is to review how the market has developed over the past decade compared to forecasts at the time, to look at where it is now, and to provide markers against which further trend analysis can be undertaken. The results are seen to provide context for BML's research study, "Understanding the Digital Consumer", now taking place.
Contributors to the study will receive a report on the full findings. Topline results will be revealed at BML's annual Books & Consumers Conference taking place in Central London on March 23, 2011.
