Boston Library Consortium joins forces with Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) to promote open access -

A new collaborative endeavor has been unveiled between the Boston Library Consortium (BLC) and the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), further fortifying the movement towards open access scholarly publishing.

The alliance between BLC, representing a coalition of libraries across the north-eastern United States, and DOAJ, a global repository of nearly 20,000 peer-reviewed open access journals, is poised to amplify the dissemination of scholarly knowledge. Under this agreement, BLC member institutions are set to rally behind DOAJ's mission of curating and indexing high-quality open access journals.

This collaborative initiative receives added momentum with the participation of seven additional BLC member institutions, along with the five existing DOAJ supporters from BLC's network. Through this combined effort, the institutions will play a vital role in enhancing the accessibility, visibility, and usage of open access journals on a global scale.

The partnership assumes greater significance as the open access movement gains momentum, particularly in the United States following the White House Office of Science & Technology Policy's 'Nelson memo.' The memo underscores the growing importance of open access as a means of expanding accessibility to research findings and fostering collaborative knowledge exchange.

The partnership between BLC and DOAJ represents a significant stride forward in the realm of open access scholarly publishing, showcasing the pivotal role that institutions and consortiums can play in shaping the future of academic communication. Through this collaboration, BLC and DOAJ are paving the way for greater access to knowledge and greater equity in academic discourse.
