Brill announces support for ‘STM Principles for Article Sharing’ initiative -

Scholarly publisher Brill has announced its support for the STM Association's Consultation on Article Sharing.

Scholarly Collaboration Networks (SCNs) - which provide a place for researchers to host, share and discover articles - continue to evolve at a quick pace. In recent years, impressive tools have been developed in the digital landscape to support researchers in their efforts to collaborate with one another to make discoveries and share ideas.

Yet the vast set of tools and variation of functionality across SCNs has also added a layer of confusion, because it is unclear to authors what level of public or private sharing is acceptable for their own work according to the guidelines of their respective publisher.

Publishers have a responsibility to facilitate the collaboration that is so essential to scholarship. That is why Brill is supporting the recent STM Consultation on Article Sharing put forward by the International Association of Scientific, Technical and Medical Publishers (STM). The initiative puts forward a draft of voluntary principles for the sharing of published articles via SCNs, also known as Social Sharing Networks (SSNs), as a starting point for a public discussion among stakeholders, including researchers, authors, their collaborators, librarians, SCNs and publishers alike.

Brill looks forward to the outcome of the public consultation, and supports the aim of achieving seamless sharing and collaboration for future scholarly discoveries.
