Bristol University Press (BUP) has announced the launch of the Global Social Challenges Development Fund, a new initiative designed to address inequities in academic publishing and support under-represented researchers worldwide.
The fund will provide assistance to scholars from the Global South and early-career researchers through initiatives such as English-language editing, multilingual publishing, mentorship, and open-access publication support. It aims to expand equitable access to publication opportunities while promoting research aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Building on BUP’s three-decade commitment to social justice-based publishing, the fund complements the publisher’s Global Social Challenges Journal (GSCJ) and related programs that amplify diverse voices in evidence-based research. The initiative is intended to increase the visibility and real-world impact of scholarship tackling global issues such as inequality, sustainability, and inclusion.
The GSCJ mentorship program—focused on early-career researchers from the Global South and diaspora communities—will be among the activities supported through the fund, providing training in academic writing and publication processes. Contributions will go directly toward publishing assistance, with progress updates shared regularly via the BUP website.
Further information about participation and contributions is available at bristoluniversitypress.co.uk/global-social-challenges-development-fund, where BUP continues to encourage collaboration in advancing equitable access to scholarly communication.
