The British Psychological Society (BPS), in collaboration with Wiley, will launch a new open access journal titled Environmental Psychology Research in 2026. The journal will focus on psychological dimensions of human interaction with both natural and built environments, aiming to advance international and interdisciplinary contributions to the field.
The publication will cover a wide range of topics, including urban design, sustainability, virtual environments, and responses to environmental crises. It is positioned as a platform for both traditional empirical research and non-traditional contributions that address contemporary environmental challenges through a psychological lens.
A core objective of the journal is to promote equity, diversity, and inclusion. Its editorial framework emphasizes the importance of environmental justice and intervention strategies with broad societal and ecological benefits. Contributions will be welcomed from across global contexts, with particular attention to increasing representation from underrepresented regions, including the Global South.
The journal will be led by two co-editors based at the University of Bath in the United Kingdom and De La Salle University in the Philippines. It will adopt a wide-ranging methodological scope, encouraging qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods research, as well as practice-informed perspectives from both academic and non-academic contributors. This approach reflects an intention to reflect the diversity of views and experiences that characterize contemporary discourse on human–environment relationships.
