The Coalition for Diversity and Inclusion in Scholarly Communications (C4DISC) has released the Toolkit for Disability Equity, a structured resource designed to support the advancement of disability equity within the scholarly communications sector. Developed through a community-led process, the toolkit offers actionable strategies, frameworks, and guidance for fostering more inclusive workplace environments for individuals with disabilities.
The resource addresses several core areas essential to inclusive professional practice. These include guidance on implementing inclusive workplace strategies, frameworks for navigating the disclosure of disability status in professional settings, and best practices for requesting and managing accommodations. By addressing both visible and non-visible disabilities, the toolkit underscores the importance of fostering environments in which all individuals can participate fully and equitably.
With approximately 16% of the global working-age population identifying as having a disability—many of which are non-apparent—the initiative highlights the importance of institutional practices that acknowledge and support diverse needs. The resource is positioned as a practical tool for organizations and individuals aiming to embed equity and accessibility into daily operations.
The release of the Toolkit for Disability Equity reflects a wider commitment to ensuring that the scholarly communications ecosystem is inclusive and responsive to the needs of all contributors. C4DISC has made the toolkit publicly available and encourages stakeholders to engage with its content and incorporate its principles into their ongoing diversity and inclusion efforts.
