CABI’s Global Health, the go-to bibliographic database for the study and practice of national, regional and international public health, is making relevant content available for free to support the international effort to fight the outbreak of novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV).
The coronavirus content on Global Health including research on epidemiology, prevention, and control of SARS and MERS, will be made open access as a way of contributing to the response to the outbreak which so far has more than 40,500 confirmed cases and over 900 deaths in China. CABI is also temporarily making content about animal coronaviruses from its CAB Abstracts database available through the same route, as its likely the virus originated in animals.
The World Health Organisation recently launched a US$675 million preparedness and response plan to tackle the new coronavirus, which was first reported from Wuhan, China, on 31 December 2019. This includes steps to limit human-to-human transmission of the virus, particularly in countries most vulnerable if they were to face an outbreak; identify, isolate and care for patients early; communicate critical risk and event information; minimise social and economic impact; reduce virus spread from animal sources; and address crucial unknowns.
CABI is making more than 17,000 relevant records from across Global Health and CAB Abstracts free to access for three months. It is aimed at public health professionals, researchers, academics and policy makers who are vital to the response to the outbreak by providing information relevant to the immediate and future needs of those affected.
Global Health allows users to browse and search focused records, books, reviews and news across six key themes which include chronic diseases & ageing, environmental health and infectious diseases.
In addition, the Global Health interface – which is hosted on the CAB Direct platform – enables the user to search and browse content by seven regions and selected countries. This allows access to the regional content and news that is important to the user’s individual study and practice.
