CABI to publish Royal Entomological Society Handbooks series -

CABI, a global non-profit organization with a rich history in entomological research and publishing, has reached an agreement to publish all future editions of the Royal Entomological Society's (RES) series, "Handbooks for the Identification of British Insects." This collaboration brings together two organizations dedicated to advancing insect science and providing valuable resources for amateur and professional entomologists.

The RES series, which has been aiding entomologists in insect identification and taxonomy since 1949, will now benefit from CABI's extensive publishing expertise. The partnership encompasses the production of both print and eBook versions of the handbooks, covering various insect groups such as Coleoptera, Diptera, Hemiptera, Hymenoptera, Lepidoptera, Psocodea, and Trichoptera taxa.

CABI's roots in entomology can be traced back to its founding as the Entomological Research Committee (Tropical Africa) in 1910, and it has maintained its commitment to entomological research and publishing. The organization continues to publish the 'Review of Applied Entomology' over a century later.

Founded in 1833, the RES is an international learned society dedicated to advancing insect science. The society supports international collaboration, research, and publication, with the handbooks playing a pivotal role in achieving its strategic objectives, particularly in promoting the study and practice of insect science.

As part of this collaboration, CABI will convert the existing recent backlist of RES Handbooks, which were previously only available in print, into eBooks. These eBooks will be made available as the RES Handbook eCollection, which will be offered to libraries through the CABI Digital Library. This marks the first time that these RES Handbooks will be accessible in a digital and fully searchable format.

CABI and the RES will work closely to develop the Handbook series editorially, with plans to expand the editorial advisory panel. Additionally, CABI's marketing team will play an integral role in increasing the visibility of the titles through conferences, social media, The CABI Blog, society membership marketing, email alerts, and newsletters.

In addition to its commitment to publish the RES Handbook series, CABI releases approximately 70 new books each year across various subject areas, primarily in the life sciences, including several new books in entomology annually.
