The ABC International Excellence Award for Accessible Publishing has opened its nominations for 2024. This award honors both a publisher and a project initiative demonstrating exceptional leadership and accomplishments in enhancing the accessibility of e-books and digital publications for individuals who are blind, have low vision, are dyslexic, or have mobility impairments affecting their ability to read printed materials.
The winners will be announced at the official Gala Dinner of the International Publishers Congress on December 4, 2024, during the Guadalajara International Book Fair in Mexico.
The selection panel, comprising accessibility experts, will evaluate nominations based on several criteria:
• Quantity of accessible format books available
• Integration of accessibility standards into production systems
• Collaboration with supply chain partners to maintain accessibility for end-users
• Innovative practices advancing e-book and digital publication accessibility
• Broad positive impact on individuals who are print-disabled
• ABC encourages nominations from companies, organizations, or individuals in developing or least-developed countries.
The ABC International Excellence Award has a distinguished history, having been presented at prominent book fairs worldwide. Previous winners in the publisher category include Kogan Page (2022), Taylor & Francis Group (2021), and Macmillan Learning (2020). In the project initiative category, past winners include Mr. Ashoka Bandula Weerawardhana in Sri Lanka (2022) and the National Network for Equitable Library Service in Canada (2021).
To nominate, complete the application form (available in English, French, and Spanish) and submit it to Accessible.Books@wipo.int by September 16, 2024.
