Cambridge University Press has announced its participation in the first ever Academic Book Week – an international celebration of the diversity, innovation and influence of academic books – by giving free access to its 20 most influential books, as chosen by Cambridge editors. This includes works from Plato, Nietzsche, Descartes and Eric Hobsbawm.
The week runs from November 9-16, and writers, readers and publishers from all over the world will be taking part to debate the current and future state of the academic book. Cambridge University Press, the world's oldest publisher, is joining the party with a week-long programme of events and promotions including an exclusive open day showcasing its new state-of-the-art premises, a live streaming lecture on the future of publishing and a limited-time-only reader offer.
Members of the public are invited on an exclusive tour of The Press Museum when the Press's Dr Rosalind Grooms and Board Director, Kevin Taylor, will explore how it has and how it can continue to shape the world of academic publishing.
Joining the series of debates throughout the Week, Cambridge University Press will also be live streaming a lecture, with Senior Lecturer in Literature, Technology and Publishing at Birkbeck, University of London, Dr Martin Eve about the future of the academic book at 11 am on November 12, 2016.
Academic Book Week, which is sponsored by the Bookseller's Association and the Publisher's Association, is aimed at and created by all those who write, make, sell, work with, or read, academic books. For the first time, booksellers, institutions, publishers, librarians, authors and readers will come together to debate and bring to life the academic book in a series of coordinated events, competitions, promotions, and social media activity.
