Cambridge University Press & Assessment appoints new board Chair -

Professor Andy Neely has been appointed as the new chair of the Cambridge University Press & Assessment Board (PAB), the body responsible for overseeing governance on behalf of the University of Cambridge. He will succeed Anthony Odgers, the University’s Chief Finance Officer, who is stepping down from his roles later this year.

Neely is Professor of Manufacturing at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow of Sidney Sussex College. He has previously served as Senior Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Enterprise and Business Relations and is a former member of the PAB. He also holds board positions at the High Value Manufacturing Catapult and Cambridge Innovation Capital and recently became chair of Innovate Cambridge and the Better Futures Programme.

Over his career, Neely has founded research centers including the Cambridge Service Alliance, the Centre for Digital Built Britain, and the Centre for Business Performance at Cranfield University. He co-founded Anmut, a data valuation company, and has written more than 200 books and articles. He was awarded an OBE in 2020 for services to research and university-industry collaboration.

The Press & Assessment Board, created after the 2021 merger of Cambridge Assessment and Cambridge University Press, is composed of non-executives and the Chief Executive of Press & Assessment. It is accountable to the Syndicate chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, which provides oversight and support through a long-established governance structure.

Committees of non-executives meet regularly to ensure the organization’s learning, research products, and assessment offerings meet rigorous academic, strategic, and financial operations.
