Cambridge University Press & Assessment has announced the appointment of Spencer Piggott as its new Chief Information Officer (CIO), effective March 31, 2025. Piggott will succeed Mark Maddocks, who is stepping back from full-time work after a distinguished 15-year tenure at Cambridge.
Piggott joins Cambridge from Bauer Media, a €2.2 billion global media conglomerate with 12,000 employees. As Group Chief Technology and Information Officer, he spearheaded technology and transformation initiatives, reporting directly to the CEO and owner. Bauer operates a vast portfolio, including over 150 radio station brands, 200 magazines, 200 digital products, and extensive print, postal, and marketing services.
Maddocks will remain with Cambridge through late April to support a seamless transition and handover process. During his time at Cambridge, Maddocks played a pivotal role in advancing the organization’s digital capabilities, helping it adapt to the evolving landscape of education and publishing technology.
In his new role, Piggott will oversee technology strategy and operations for Cambridge University Press & Assessment, ensuring the organization remains at the forefront of innovation in the publishing and education sectors. His expertise in managing complex, large-scale technology initiatives will be instrumental in driving the next phase of growth and transformation at Cambridge.
