Academic publisher Cambridge University Press has announced the launch of a new Open Access journal, Personality Neuroscience. The journal aims to be the primary outlet for publications on the neuroscience of individual differences.
Personality neuroscience is a new field, emerging in the past ten years, using neuroscientific techniques to examine the causal basis of personality and related factors. The differences between individuals have important consequences for a wide range of behaviours, including clinical disorders, occupational choice/performance, and economic behaviour. In recognition of this importance, the field of personality, intelligence and, more generally, individual differences, is now growing.
Personality Neuroscience aims to capture and define this growing area of study and is the first of its kind to specialise in, and to seek out papers from, neuroscientists, with a focus on personality theory. It takes a broad perspective on neuroscience, including genetics, as well as genes x environmental interactions, and psychometric studies which are aimed at neuroscience-level constructs.
Empirical papers focussed on the interface between personality and neuroscience are encouraged, using any methodological approach, such as experimental, longitudinal, genetic, genomic, gene expression and epigenetic. Developmental and clinical applications, including patient data, are welcomed, as are studies linking systematic individual differences in neural systems to individual differences in important life outcomes. Studies that seek to integrate different areas of research are especially encouraged (e.g., personality and decision science). Short Communications, Systematic Reviews, and Letters are also accepted.
The journal is helmed by Founding Editor Philip J. Corr, Professor of Psychology, City, University of London, UK and Assistant Editor Dean Mobbs, Assistant Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience, Caltech, USA.
