Academic publisher Cambridge University Press (CUP), US, has announced that it will use Ebooks Corporation's eb20 platform to deliver ebooks to academic libraries. This was announced at the ongoing Online Information Conference in London.
eb20 is a browser-based online ebook reader that was originally developed by Ebooks Corporation for use by customers of its consumer ebook service, www.ebooks.com. One of its main features is that it combines ease of use with strong anti-piracy measures.
In response to the growing demand for digital resources from academic institutions, CUP will launch its own ebook product, Cambridge eBook Collections, in December. Cambridge Collections will feature subject-based collections of ebooks, and will be sold on a perpetual access, unlimited multiple concurrent user basis. The initial release of Cambridge eBook Collections, available to Asia Pacific only, will include specialist collections of humanities, science and business ebooks.
