The Canadian Journal of Chemistry, along with its publisher Canadian Science Publishing, has announced the appointment of Dr. Alison Thompson as the new Co-Editor-in-Chief. Dr. Thompson will join forces with the journal's current Co-Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Stacey Wetmore, to lead the journal's editorial direction.
Dr. Thompson, a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Pyrrole Chemistry for Chemical Biology and Energy at Dalhousie University, brings over two decades of expertise to her new role. Her extensive contributions to the Canadian chemistry community include serving on the Canadian Journal of Chemistry's Editorial Advisory Board. Dr. Thompson's appointment marks a new chapter for the journal, as she brings fresh perspectives to its mission of advancing chemical research.
The journal has also announced that Prof. Yining Huang, who will step down as Co-Editor-in-Chief at the end of 2024 after six years of dedicated service. Prof. Huang has been a driving force behind the Canadian Journal of Chemistry since 2006, beginning as an Associate Editor and later becoming a Senior Editor in 2013 before assuming the role of Co-Editor-in-Chief in 2019.
During his tenure, Prof. Huang played a pivotal role in the journal’s growth, overseeing the publication of 33 Special Issues, establishing partnerships with the Canadian Society for Chemistry, and initiating the CJC Awards program. He also co-authored the commemorative editorial "Looking Back on 90 Years of the Canadian Journal of Chemistry." Prof. Huang will continue to support the journal in a new capacity as a Consulting Editor.
