The Canadian Journal of Forest Research has announced the introduction of two new article formats—Data Papers and Methods Papers—intended to enhance transparency, reproducibility, and innovation within the forest research community.
Data Papers are designed to provide detailed descriptions of datasets to improve their discoverability and reuse. These submissions must describe the purpose and collection of the dataset, along with its potential for reuse. They are not intended to include hypothesis testing or interpretative analysis. To ensure accessibility, datasets must be deposited in publicly available repositories such as Dryad and be licensed for reuse.
Methods Papers will focus on the development or refinement of experimental methodologies. To be eligible for consideration, such papers must demonstrate a clear comparison between the proposed method and existing protocols, establishing either a technological improvement or a clear advantage. Additionally, authors are expected to present well-defined experimental procedures, timelines, and statistical analyses of the data generated.
By including these two new article types, the journal aims to promote innovation in forest science, facilitate the replication of research, and encourage the use of existing datasets to support further study and discovery in the field.
