In a significant move towards advancing open science, Canadian Science Publishing (CSP) has announced its collaboration with OA Switchboard, a community-led initiative dedicated to simplifying the exchange of information on open-access publications throughout the entire publication process.
Effective January 1, 2024, all open-access manuscripts published in CSP journals will trigger an automatic P1 message (a set of metadata related to a specific article publication) upon version of record publication. This message will be sent to affiliated librarians or research funders, confirming the published article's details. The information will be disseminated to libraries, consortia, and funders actively participating in the OA Switchboard program.
OA Switchboard, acting as an independent intermediary, facilitates connections between parties and systems, simplifying the exchange of open-access publication-level information. The initiative offers several key features to enhance collaboration and information sharing: Standardized Metadata: OA Switchboard provides standardized and authoritative publication metadata for both internal and external reporting and purchasing decisions; Compliance Monitoring: It enables libraries to monitor deal compliance across multiple publishers and confirm author and article compliance; Structured Metadata Format: The initiative delivers a structured version of record metadata format in both JSON and Excel, ensuring compatibility with various systems; Automatic Data Feeding: Data is automatically fed into existing funder, institution, and library systems, allowing for seamless integration, processing, and analysis; and Standard Reporting Recommendations: OA Switchboard adopts the ESAC and Jisc standard reporting recommendations, aligning with industry best practices.
Additional information about the OA Switchboard is available in a concise three-minute video.
