Carolina Consortium and Elsevier announce transformative Read-and-Publish agreement -

Elsevier, a global leader in scientific information and analytics, and the Carolina Consortium, an influential advocate for academic collaboration and access to knowledge, have announced a three-year Read-and-Publish (R&P) agreement aimed at advancing open access publishing and enhancing the visibility of research across its member institutions. The agreement, which takes effect in 2025, represents a significant step forward in facilitating equitable access to scholarly content while supporting authors in disseminating their work in open access formats.

Under the terms of the agreement, 17 participating institutions will gain access to Elsevier’s extensive repository of high-quality scientific journals, ensuring that researchers have access to the latest findings across a wide range of disciplines.

One of the key features of the agreement is its hybrid model, which allows participating institutions to not only access the latest scholarly content but also provides authors with the opportunity to publish their research in Elsevier’s open access journals. By waiving publication fees for open access articles, the R&P agreement empowers authors to share their work freely, enhancing the visibility and impact of their research while aligning with the global transition toward open access publishing.

The Read-and-Publish model, a growing trend in the academic publishing landscape, is an essential step toward making research outputs more widely available, especially for institutions with limited resources. This partnership with Elsevier is part of the broader movement within the academic community to foster greater collaboration, transparency, and accessibility in research publishing.

The agreement is expected to have a significant impact on the research community, promoting both collaboration and the dissemination of knowledge, and further cementing the Carolina Consortium’s role as a leader in supporting sustainable publishing practices and academic excellence.
