Global licensing and content solutions provider Copyright Clearance Center, Inc. (CCC) recently brought together permissions acquisition experts to network, share views, and help shape the future requirements and workflows of republication and content reuse markets. The ‘Republication and Content Reuse Roundtable’ took place at the Harvard Club in New York City.
The Roundtable was an interactive session focused on obtaining permissions for republication and reuse. Participants identified issues and considered opportunities with current permission acquisition workflows through discussions and roundtable activities. Specific challenges and potential solutions included: recognizing the most time-consuming elements within the workflow, such as pre-work tasks at the beginning of a project; exploring ways to renew expired permissions, whether though notifications or automatic renewal options; offering a projects tool to help track permissions and improve efficiency; improving the buyer experience, such as sending invoices and account statements to the buyer and not the client or end user; identifying the need to obtain high-resolution image files along with rights; allowing more opportunities to communicate with rightsholders; and providing more real-time status updates for permission requests.
CCC’s Republication Service is the most comprehensive source for clearing third-party permissions in one location. With this service, users can accelerate time-to-market and avoid high costs of one-off negotiations by securing both print and digital permissions from a growing repertory of works offered by hundreds of participating rightsholders.
