CCC, a leading provider of Open Access (OA) workflow solutions, has announced a significant enhancement to its RightsLink for Scientific Communications (RLSC) platform, aimed at facilitating the processing of OA agreements for university library consortia. This latest update empowers transparent and standardized reporting for all stakeholders involved in Open Access publishing.
Earlier this year, CCC collaborated with the European Statistical Advisory Committee (ESAC) Initiative and administrators from university libraries representing nine global consortia across the United States and Europe. The objective was to understand the specific reporting needs related to Open Access and create an ideal solution collectively. As a result of these discussions, CCC has now adopted the ESAC Article List, a reporting template for OA agreements that has gained recognition for its data sharing practices in support of the OA movement.
The enhanced RLSC release ensures the automated delivery of the ESAC Article List to relevant administrators. This scheduled delivery of critical data empowers publishers to communicate more effectively with institutional customers and other stakeholders and enables more efficient monitoring of agreement performance. Additionally, the new RLSC features are designed to simplify the tracking of consortia agreements comprising multiple institution profiles, including funding requests placed under the OA agreement and more complex funding situations.
RLSC is a comprehensive solution that allows scholarly publishers to automate and scale OA institutional agreements, reconcile publication fees, and enable funding eligibility checks at submission. As the most widely-adopted, community-led market solution, RLSC simplifies OA agreement administration for publishers, funders, institutions, and authors, with over 1,800 institutions and funders currently utilizing the platform.
Last year, CCC introduced OA Agreement Intelligence, a unique agreement modeling solution that enables publishers to analyze OA data, create sustainable agreements, and communicate effectively with partners. Combining sophisticated institutional affiliation disambiguation with user-friendly analysis and export capabilities, this solution has been instrumental in shaping transparent and sustainable OA agreements.
CCC remains an active partner in the evolution of OA publishing models. Over the years, CCC has facilitated discussions and collaborations among key OA stakeholders, including authors, publishers, institutions, funders, and vendors, through various events and initiatives. As a member of prestigious organizations such as OASPA, ALPSP, STM, and SSP, CCC continues to contribute to the advancement of Open Access in scholarly publishing.
In April, CCC unveiled 'The State of Scholarly Metadata: 2023' in collaboration with Media Growth Strategies at the London Book Fair. This visual report highlights the complexities and value of metadata throughout the scholarly research lifecycle, shedding light on the economic and social impact of a fragmented metadata supply chain on researchers, institutions, funders, and publishers, particularly during the transition to OA.
