The Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) at Stony Brook University has launched a new international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal, the International Journal of Transformative Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (IJTTL), aimed at advancing research in higher education. The inaugural issue, titled Mapping and Reimagining the State of Higher Education, is now available online, featuring seven articles on diverse topics including health inequities, virtual exchange programs, and the role of artificial intelligence in education.
The journal serves as a platform for faculty, researchers, graduate students, and educators from around the world to contribute to transformative educational practices. Its primary goal is to bridge the gap between educational research and practical teaching in the classroom.
IJTTL was founded by Yiren Kong, a postdoctoral researcher at Stony Brook and now an educational research and grant development specialist at CELT. Kong, along with colleagues Kimberly Bell, Rose Tirotta-Esposito, and Hyunjin Jinna Kim, spearheaded the journal’s creation to provide a global space for educators to share insights and research.
The first call for abstracts was issued last year, attracting submissions from various institutions. The journal publishes at least one issue annually, with the next expected before the fall semester. Through IJTTL, Kong and his team hope to foster meaningful conversations and offer a valuable resource for educators aiming to improve teaching practices and enhance student learning outcomes.
