The Center for Open Science (COS), with generous backing from NASA, has embarked on a collaborative journey with 16 organizations committed to championing the Year of Open Science. These organizations, representing funders, members of the scholarly communications community, creators of standards and research infrastructure, and advocacy groups, have rallied behind NASA's Transform to Open Science (TOPS) initiative.
NASA, as part of its Year of Open Science, extended an open invitation to the research community to participate in efforts aimed at expediting several key priorities. The enthusiastic response from these participating organizations underscores a shared commitment to advancing four pivotal objectives: Establishing Strategic Approaches for Open Science: These organizations are dedicated to formulating strategic approaches that drive the cause of open science forward; Promoting Equitable Participation: They seek to foster equitable involvement in open science, emphasizing transparency, integrity, and fair reviews; Accountability for Open Science Activities: These groups are committed to integrating open science activities into evaluations and incentives, ensuring that such initiatives receive due recognition; and Engaging Underrepresented Communities: The participating organizations are determined to involve underrepresented communities in the promotion of open science and research.
In conjunction with other signatories of the Year of Open Science initiative, COS will convene a series of working sessions aimed at aligning collective efforts. This collaborative journey will culminate in a Year of Open Science conference scheduled for early to mid-2024. The conference will serve as a platform to showcase the outcomes, coalition-building efforts, and ongoing work stemming from these joint initiatives.
The combined reach and influence of the communities represented by these organizational signatories will help sustain the commitment to open science beyond the designated Year of Open Science in 2023.
This collaborative effort signifies a significant stride toward fostering openness, inclusivity, and transparency in scientific research, embodying the shared commitment of these organizations to advance the cause of open science.
