Digital and print services company Cenveo Publisher Services launched Cenveo Publisher Suite at the Society for Scholarly Publishing 2014 Annual Meeting. The Suite, featuring Smart Edit, Smart Compose, and Smart Proof, is a cloud-based ecosystem of tools that facilitate the creation, development, structure and delivery of content.
Smart Edit is a pre-edit, copyedit, and conversion tool built to automate many common and labor-intense tasks that authors and editors perform during the content creation and production process. Authors and editors use the tool to clean-up common editorial corrections, normalise manuscripts, apply journal-specific styles, and generate valid XML files. The automated reference management features ensure that references automatically validate and conform to CrossRef and PubMed.
Smart Compose is an automated composition engine that ingests content output from Smart Edit and generates proofs based on publishers' styles. Cenveo's workflow experts work with new or existing layouts to design customised styling templates. Content flows into the templates to deliver PDF proofs and begin a structured proofing process. Smart Proof quickly and efficiently produces and delivers large volumes of high-quality pages or PDF representations of digital products.
Smart Proof is an online proofing and correction tool that presents the composed content via any web browser and offers an interface to update that content in real time. Authors and editors are now able to collaborate in an environment that facilitates communication and ensures underlying structure and mark-up remains intact. The built-in Math editor allows for true equation editing, and maintains mark-up that supports downstream processing and online discoverability.
With Smart Edit, Smart Compose, and Smart Proof, scholarly publishers of all sizes can now take advantage of XML-early workflows and ensure editorial integrity and document structure are mutually maintained during the editorial, composition, and correction process.
