The prestigious London Book Fair (LBF) has unveiled its esteemed recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award for 2024, none other than YoungSuk (YS) Chi, Chairman of Elsevier and Chairman of the Association of American Publishers (AAP).
An illustrious figure in the global publishing, education, and information solutions sectors, YS Chi garners unanimous admiration and respect within the book world. In his capacity as Chairman of Elsevier, he spearheads initiatives supporting over 30 million scientists, students, and health information professionals, collaborating closely with government entities, academia, and industry stakeholders. Additionally, as the Director of Corporate Affairs for RELX, Elsevier’s parent company, Chi oversees government affairs, corporate communications, and corporate responsibility across all market segments.
With bases in London and Washington D.C., Chi's influence extends across continents as he traverses the globe to engage with scientific research communities, provide thought leadership on emerging trends, and offer strategic counsel to diverse stakeholders, boards, and groups across various industries. Notably, he currently holds the position of Chairman of the Association of American Publishers and has previously served as President of the International Publishers Association. Beyond his professional endeavors, Chi remains actively involved in numerous educational, artistic, and charitable organizations, including Princeton University, the Korea-US Science Center (KUSCO), and the Ban Ki-Moon Foundation.
The esteemed Lifetime Achievement Award, bestowed by the independent LBF Advisory Board, recognizes individuals who have left an indelible mark on the global book industry. It celebrates remarkable contributions made by publishers, agents, editors, scouts, booksellers, and other luminaries across the international book landscape.
YS Chi is slated to grace the Main Stage of The London Book Fair on Tuesday, March 12, where he will participate in a panel discussion titled ‘Exploring the Ever-Evolving World of Publishing: Global Trends, Challenges, and Opportunities’. Joining him on the panel are esteemed figures such as Karine Gonçalves Pansa, President of the International Publishers Association (IPA), and Ricardo Franco Levi, President of The Federation of European Publishers (FEP), among others.
The highlight of the event will be the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award to YS Chi during a private reception at The London Book Fair, acknowledging his outstanding contributions to the literary and publishing realms.
