Publishing solutions provider The Charlesworth Group, UK, has signed another round of National Online agreements in China with 17 international publishers. Charlesworth successfully negotiated individual contracts between the publishers and the National Science and Technology Library (NSTL) nation-wide consortia in China. These agreements, worth $1 million in gross revenue, are expected to provide valuable new income from the emerging market, create strong online brand recognition and promote online usage of the subscribed content by the Chinese.
Working as local agents in China, Charlesworth expands the reach of society and university scholarly publishers by providing access to their online journal and database content to NSTL's end users. NSTL users include around 500 Chinese academic institutions, research institutes and government departments.
The American Society of Plant Biologists (ASPB), a publisher, has chosen Charlesworth as its exclusive agent for online and print marketing in Mainland China. Charlesworth's local expertise combined with US-based management and support is projected to increase the exposure and sale of ASPB's two plant science journals in China.
The three-year renewable agency agreement combines a comprehensive marketing plan, sales support, targeted subscription marketing, translated promotional materials and a Chinese-language web site. Trials for the next round of National Online agreements will begin March/April 2008.
