ChemRxiv, a chemistry preprint server for the global chemistry community, has announced Direct Journal Transfer, a new feature that will help authors submit their posted preprints to established journals for editorial consideration and peer review. This feature, which is now available on the ChemRxiv website, currently enables direct submission to journals published by the American Chemical Society (ACS), the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) and the German Chemical Society (GDCh), including ChemPubSoc Europe (CPSE) journals. Those ChemRxiv founder society partners welcome other interested scientific publishers to inquire about adoption of ChemRxiv's Direct Journal Transfer capability for their journals.
Since its inception in 2017, ChemRxiv has attracted more than 800 original preprints from authors across 40 different countries. Global readers have responded in kind, with preprints read more than 800,000 times over the last year. Many of these preprints have evolved into full research publications appearing in prominent journals, including ACS Central Science, Angewandte Chemie, Chemical Science, Nature and Science, underscoring the excellent quality of the research being posted to ChemRxiv. Direct Journal Transfer will further enhance the utility of ChemRxiv by facilitating the integration of editorial peer review across publishers and their journal delivery platforms.
ChemRxiv contains an easy-to-use preprint submission system powered by Figshare. Most preprints are openly available within 1-2 business days, which allows submissions to be vetted for plagiarism and compliance with the site's scientific guidelines prior to their uploading. From within ChemRxiv, authors now can use Direct Journal Transfer to select a preprint from their online profile and then forward the files to a journal for review and possible publication. Upon that transfer, the respective journal will contact authors for any additional details required to progress the submission through peer review.
ChemRxiv preprints have unique digital object identifiers (DOIs) and are indexed by CrossRef, Chemical Abstract Services and Google Scholar. With Direct Journal Transfer now enabled for research journals of ACS, RSC and GDCh, participation in ChemRxiv makes it easy for authors to choose from a range of leading chemistry journals published by those scientific societies when seeking to publish their work. Upon journal publication, ChemRxiv preprints contain a link directing readers to the final published version of record at the official journal site, thus ensuring that future research is built upon the scientific integrity of that peer-reviewed information.
