Choice has published Transformative Agreements, Open Access and Research Impact, the latest in its series of research reports addressing issues of importance to the academic library community. Produced in collaboration with Wiley, the survey examines how academic libraries in the United States are navigating the landscape of transformative agreements, highlighting their roles, challenges, and progress.
Transformative agreements, designed to shift institutions from subscription‑based access models to open access publishing, have become central to strategic library planning. As institutions place greater emphasis on research visibility, compliance with public access requirements, and global impact, these agreements are increasingly viewed as a key mechanism in the evolution of scholarly publishing.
Bill Mickey, Choice Editor and Publisher, noted that transformative agreements are reshaping the relationship between scholarly publishing, open access, and institutional research priorities. He explained that the report provides timely insights into how academic libraries are approaching these changes, as well as the opportunities and challenges that remain.
The research was funded through a contribution from Wiley. The report, Transformative Agreements, Open Access and Research Impact, is published under a CC BY‑NC 4.0 license and is available at www.choice360.org/research-papers.
