Clarivate and Chinese Academy of Sciences unveil 2024 Research Fronts, highlighting emerging global research trends -

Clarivate Plc, a global leader in transformative intelligence, in collaboration with the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), has unveiled the 2024 Research Fronts report, spotlighting 125 rapidly evolving areas across the sciences and social sciences. The report, now in its eleventh edition, was launched during a ceremony in Beijing. It categorizes the Research Fronts into 110 “hot” Fronts, representing highly active fields of study, and 15 “emerging” Fronts, highlighting areas poised for significant breakthroughs.

Notable advancements include research on monoclonal antibodies for early Alzheimer’s disease treatment in clinical medicine, which could accelerate efforts to combat the condition globally. Additionally, the social sciences have seen the rise of Generative AI in education, a transformative force reshaping learning methodologies. These Research Fronts were identified using Clarivate’s Essential Science Indicators (ESI) database, which draws from the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) and Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI). Through co-citation analysis, clusters of frequently cited papers over five years were classified based on shared methods, concepts, or experimental data, reflecting areas of intense scholarly activity.

In the accompanying report, 2024 Research Fronts: Active Fields, Leading Countries/Regions, the United States continues to lead in 11 disciplines, followed by Mainland China, with the United Kingdom, Germany, and France rounding out the top five. This analysis provides critical insights for policymakers, research administrators, and companies, enabling them to allocate resources effectively and support advancements in priority areas.
