Clarivate Plc has released its annual G20 research and innovation scorecard, prepared by analysts and data scientists at the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI). The interactive scorecard provides a data‑driven overview of the research and innovation performance of G20 member nations, covering research output, citation impact, collaboration patterns, and alignment with global priorities such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The 2026 edition is freely available on Clarivate.com and precedes the G20 Summit in Miami, Florida, scheduled for December 14–15, where innovation, economic growth, and technology are expected to be central themes.
Key Findings from the 2026 Scorecard include:
• Mainland China: Surpassed 1 million annual research papers, reinforcing its position in global research output. Collaboration with the United States has declined as domestic output accelerates.
• United States: Citation impact has gradually declined over the past decade, though it remains above the global average in key areas.
• India: Doubled its research output in ten years, increasing from 91,000 papers in 2016 to 193,000 in 2025, signaling rapid growth as a global contributor.
• European Union: Produced more than 6.4 million publications over the past decade, with steady growth in open access adoption.
• United Kingdom: Maintains consistently high research impact across disciplines, with two‑thirds of output involving international collaboration.
• South Korea: Invests around 5% of GDP in R&D, with notable strengths in engineering and technology, particularly materials engineering and energy research.
