Clarivate supports metadata accuracy enhancement for Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) -

Clarivate has announced its pivotal role in improving metadata accuracy for the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) by supporting the enhancement of their OAI-PMH feed. This update introduces a delete flag, enabling accurate signalling when journals or articles are withdrawn from the DOAJ database, a critical step in ensuring reliable metadata across platforms.

The enhancement addresses a long-standing need by eliminating the requirement for full metadata overwrites, significantly boosting efficiency for systems consuming DOAJ data. This improvement benefits a broad spectrum of users, including search engines, discovery services, library portals, AI tools like ChatGPT, and scholarly communication platforms.

DOAJ, which relies on publishers to voluntarily provide metadata under open licenses, emphasized the importance of accurate and accessible metadata for the research community. They also encouraged other organizations to support similar enhancements to further strengthen the scholarly ecosystem.
