Clarivate Plc, a global leader in transformative intelligence, has announced the Citation Laureates™ 2024 list, highlighting 22 exceptional scientists and economists whose groundbreaking contributions are considered worthy of future Nobel Prizes. These distinguished individuals, hailing from six countries, have made remarkable strides in fields such as clean energy, quantum computing, heart disease, and the economic impact of corruption.
Compiled by experts at Clarivate's Institute for Scientific Information (ISI)™, the Citation Laureates list is known for its accuracy in forecasting future Nobel winners. Since 2002, 75 Citation Laureates have gone on to receive Nobel honors, often several years after their inclusion on this prestigious list.
This year's Citation Laureates include 11 individuals based in the United States, six in the United Kingdom, two in Switzerland, and one each from Germany, Israel, and Japan. These laureates are affiliated with leading academic institutions and corporate organizations and have authored highly cited, foundational research papers that have had a profound societal impact.
The Citation Laureates are selected using citation data from the Web of Science™, a trusted source of scholarly publication records. Out of nearly 61 million articles indexed since 1970, only 0.01% have been cited more than 2,000 times, reflecting the exceptional influence of the selected research.
The list spans a diverse range of critical fields, including nanotechnology, molecular dynamics, genetic imprinting, 3D protein structures, and condensed matter physics. Clarivate's ongoing recognition of these influential researchers underscores the importance of their contributions in shaping the future of science and innovation.
For over two decades, ISI has used citation analysis to identify potential Nobel Prize recipients in the fields of Physiology or Medicine, Physics, Chemistry, and Economics. The Citation Laureates list continues to serve as a strong indicator of future scientific and economic breakthroughs, recognizing research that shapes the world and stands at the forefront of global progress.
