Open access (OA) scholarly publisher Co-Action Publishing, Sweden, has announced the launch of a new journal - Journal of Community Hospital Internal Medicine Perspectives. The journal is published by Co-Action Publishing on behalf of a team of physicians at Union Memorial Hospital Department of Medicine in Baltimore, USA, who took the initiative to start the journal.
Journal of Community Hospital Internal Medicine Perspectives seeks to fill an important gap within the medical literature, particularly in the US. Although community hospitals sponsor more than half the Internal Medicine Residency Review Committee (RRC) accredited programmes in the country, research related to this training is currently spread throughout the medical literature. Added to this situation, many community hospitals encounter significant challenges in meeting the academic and research requirements associated with sponsoring medical residencies. It is these challenges the new journal seeks to address through offering a forum for disseminating information and research on a wide array of aspects related to medicine at community hospitals.
The journal will cover best practices in community academic programmes, community hospital-based research, opinion and insight from community hospital leadership and faculty, and the scholarly work of residents and medical students affiliated with community hospitals.
Union Memorial Hospital Department of Medicine is the initial sponsor of the journal. Robert Ferguson, the Chief of Medicine and Program Director, will serve as the first Editor. The journal is supported by a 15 member editorial board and subsidised by the Union Memorial Hospital Department of Medicine and the MedStar Institute for Innovations.
