The Confederation of Open Access Repositories (COAR) has confirmed that its 2026 Annual Meeting will be hosted by the University of Minho in Braga, Portugal, from June 1 to 3, 2026. The event comes at a time when the global research ecosystem is navigating political uncertainty, rapid technological change, and increasing pressure on open scholarly communication.
The meeting will bring together COAR’s international community to reflect on how open science infrastructures can remain resilient and relevant in a shifting global landscape. Discussions will focus on strengthening open and interoperable research systems, understanding the implications of AI for trust and accountability in scholarly communication, and addressing the challenge of ensuring global visibility for research while respecting local ownership and multilingual diversity.
The programme will begin with a preconference day on June 1, dedicated to hands-on workshops centered on international collaboration. The main conference on June 2 and 3 will feature keynote presentations, panel discussions, and individual contributions from across the global open science community.
