Conflict and Health, an online journal published by BioMed Central, US, has recently published a thematic series, edited by Dr. Chris Beyrer, on Health Care in Burma. The articles in this series deal with health care and infectious diseases, particularly HIV and AIDS, in Burma/Myanmar and the effects of the increased incidence and spread of these diseases on neighbour states such as Thailand and Bangladesh.
Thematic series provide substantial coverage of a topic through a group of concise articles on various aspects of a single theme. All articles are commissioned and edited by experts in the field, and are written by specialists on each topic. Through this initiative, the publisher hopes to raise awareness of each of the themes covered, and provide a platform for discussion related to each theme.
Millions of people around the world are caught between the vicious spiral of violent conflict and poor health. The journal focuses on the intricate relationship between conflict and health, and how health interventions in war zones may contribute to peace.
