Contemporary OB/GYN® appoints Dr. Catherine Y. Spong as editor-in-chief -

Contemporary OB/GYN®, a multimedia platform that provides obstetricians and gynecologists with expert advice and critical articles from top-tier physician-authors, has appointed Dr. Catherine Y. Spong as editor-in-chief.

Spong is a professor and vice chair in the department of obstetrics and gynecology at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, where she also serves as the chief of the department’s division of maternal-fetal medicine. Spong specialises in prematurity, fetal complications and improving outcomes in children. Her clinical responsibilities are in the Parkland Health and Hospital System in Dallas. She holds the Gillette professorship of obstetrics and gynecology.

Spong’s all-encompassing research interests include the developing fetus, improving the understanding of stillbirth, fetal surgery for myelomeningocele, Zika in pregnancy and the human placenta. She holds several patents for neuroprotective agents that help prevent fetal injury. Spong is also a passionate advocate for inclusion in research for underrepresented groups.
