COPE signs up as partner in Second World Conference on Research Integrity -

The Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) has announced that it is supporting, and has had a substantial input into, the organisation of the Second World Research Integrity Conference, slated for July 21-24, 2010 in Singapore. COPE is one of the major partners in the conference and representatives are speaking at two of the plenary sessions. The committee has also organised one of the concomitant tracks (track 4 ‘International standards for authors and editors’). In addition, COPE is hosting a post-conference workshop, similar to the COPE Forum. This will form part of the ‘Post-Conference Workshop 4: Workshop for Editors & Publishers’, with the Forum being held on July 24.

The World Conferences on Research Integrity are projected to represent an effort to provide guidance for promoting integrity in research throughout the world. Building on the discussions begun at the first World Conference on Research Integrity (Lisbon 2007), this second gathering of experts from many different countries, disciplines and leadership roles reportedly has a proactive agenda. During the conference and post-conference workshops, participants will exchange information and views and then work together to develop guidelines and recommendations for promoting integrity in research on a global scale.

The conference is especially relevant to scientific and technical journal editors. More details on the conference and the registration form are available at http://www.wcri2010.org/index.asp. More details on the forum agenda will follow shortly.
