Non-profit copyright licensing solutions provider Copyright Clearance Center (CCC), US, has announced major enhancements to Rightsphere, the company's rights advisory and management tool. Driven by input from leading corporate information managers and librarians, these changes are projected to make it possible to manage complex rights and licences with precision and speed.
Launched in 2006, Rightsphere has been adopted by players in the pharmaceutical, aerospace and consumer goods industries. The web-based application allows general counsels, information managers and corporate librarians to automate rights management at a highly granular level. This ensures that the value of expensive site licences are maximised and the nuances of corporate content use policies are instantly communicated at the point of use to employees around the globe.
Rightsphere's comprehensive administrative application covers a wide range of content use activities. These include sharing content in a PowerPoint presentation; within government and regulatory submissions; and in CD-ROMs and flash drives. It also takes into account "time bound rights"- restrictions on content use within time periods specified by a licence agreement. In addition, Rightsphere incorporates context; for example, geographic, subscription and spending boundaries can be centrally managed.
The tool includes a database for content licence terms from all sources, such as publishers and content aggregators. In addition, the tool generates reports on content usage to help companies fully leverage content assets and guide their information buying decisions.
Because Rightsphere is a hosted service and requires no hardware or software installations by the customer, the upgrade is automatically delivered to customers.
