CRKN has announced that it has adopted Archivematica as the new preservation platform for the Canadiana Trustworthy Digital Repository (TDR). Archivematica will replace the preservation management components of the current platform, which were developed in-house over the past decade.
Archivematica is an industry-standard archival platform with user support services and broad-based user and developer communities. Adopting Archivematica will enable CRKN to leverage this support, reducing time spent on maintaining basic infrastructure and allowing staff to focus on delivering services and enhancements that meet member and stakeholder needs.
Part of an overarching project to split preservation and access functions into separate platforms, adopting Archivematica will also more closely align the Canadiana TDR with the preservation standards and practices of the wider GLAM community.
CRKN’s Platform Technical Task Group (PTTG) has provided the CRKN platform team with invaluable advice on this task and will continue to offer recommendations throughout the project lifecycle.
