The Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN) has negotiated a transformative read and publish agreement with Cambridge University Press (CUP). This cost-neutral agreement includes unlimited reading and publishing at no charge to authors affiliated with participating institutions in nearly 400 CUP journals, including all hybrid and gold open access journals.
CRKN’s Content Strategy Committee (CSC) identified the CUP license as a potential candidate for a transformative agreement due to CUP’s demonstrated commitment to open access agreements and cost neutral solutions. Pursuing a transformative agreement with CUP was endorsed by members at the 2020 CRKN Conference and reaffirmed at the 2021 CRKN Conference. CRKN successfully achieved all of the objectives for the renewal, which included open access publishing for CRKN-affiliated authors at no charge to the authors, full reading access (with perpetual access rights), and ensuring that the cost of participation in the license is cost-neutral. The final 2022-2024 license includes 52 participants.
Effective January 1, 2022, corresponding authors affiliated with CRKN member institutions participating in the agreement can publish an unlimited number of their articles as open access in CUP hybrid and gold journals at no charge to the author for the duration of the agreement.
